Quick and Inexpensive Breakfast Options

The article below is reprinted from the January 2020 Savory magazine which I always find in the local supermarket. I forget which one. Anyway, it's a great magazine and they have an online presence at Savoryonline.com

What are some quick and inexpensive options?

Breakfast helps fuel a busy morning, so try your best to make it a priority. However, as a mom of a toddler, I know how hectic mornings can be. Try prepping your breakfast the night before. Overnight oats or a PB and J on whole wheat bread paired with a piece of fruit are quick, easy, and affordable options. -Holly

Setting the stage for the day with a balanced breakfast doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. Get the day started with toast or a waffle topped with peanut butter and a piece of fruit. Greek yogurt or even string cheese with a piece of fruit are also two great combinations for a nutritious start to your day. -Sarah

Breakfast is your first energy opportunity of the day and wakes up your body's metabolism. And the best part? Breakfast doesn't need to be complicated to be healthy. For instance, pair an apple or banana with a nut butter, try a a slice of toast with avocado, or a hard-boiled egg and half a whole wheat bagel. Overnight oats are great to grab and go the next day. Every meal is important, but breakfast definitely gets your day started right. -Megan

Here are some quick and affordable ideas:
 * Overnight oats: Add a 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 cup oats to a sealed container; store in the fridge overnight. In the morning, top it with a banana slices and a scoop of peanut butter before heading out for the day.
 * Peanut butter crackers, a cheese stick, an apple and off you go.
 * A protein granola bar, a cup of milk, and a bag of grades for the road.
 * 2 hard boiled eggs, a fruit cup, and a piece of whole-grain toast get all the food groups in one meal. -Shanna

Are there any others you can think of? I like breakfast quick and on the go. Here are some of my go-tos:  Peanut butter and toast, peanut butter on rice cake, microwave oatmeal, a couple slices of turkey bacon, Greek yogurt, smoothie, hard boiled eggs, red beet eggs (A PA Dutch staple!), homemade breakfast sandwich, granola bars, ANY seasonal fruit and/or string cheese!

You don't need to resort to McDonalds or Wawa if you are short on time. Try and stay away from the processed foods. You have healthy options.

Although I have been known to down a quick bowl of second day spaghetti or a slice of pizza now and then before running out the door. 😁 Heck, it's still healthier than a fast food alternative!
