Stuff I Learned in Maine this October

During this last trip to Maine in October, I learned a lot. I have every trip to Maine but this time, I  decided to share it with you rather than keep this incredible wealth of knowledge trapped up in my mind. I mean FASCINATING! OK, just grab yourself a beer, hopefully an IPA and pull up a chair.

There are lots of weird different bugs in Maine. I can't identify them. I see them and am like, OK that's new! Something purple with fangs.... now SHOOO!!!! 

There are lots of spiders. Different colors and shapes and sizes. Luckily nothing which screams "Kingdom of the Spiders".

Maine potatoes are just as good if not better than Idaho potatoes. And the fields of white potato flower are just beautiful! 

Goats, chickens, sheep, horses and donkeys make great field buddies together. Add cows into the mix and it's a different story. (Awwwwwkwaaarrrd) Apparently cows have attitude? 

Lobster is better in pairs and definitely steamed rather than boiled. My brother told me they mate for life. I said at least they were together at the very end. 😳 DOH! 

I am have confirmed I am not a painter. I end up with paint even in my private parts and yet, my pants had NOT come off.... 

Otters may sunbath on your driveway but there is not a chance in Hell you will get a pic of it anytime soon. 

The state bird is the chickadee. This is a big joke. I am convinced that the state bird is either the crow, black fly, or mosquito.

Everyone may be family and related. Don't talk about ANYBODY. 

Maine peeps are awesome, hearty and the salt of the Earth.

Your good neighbors need to be cherished.

You can add blueberries or maple syrup to pretty anything and sell it.

I still am very aggressive Philly driver compared to Mainers. Yet oddly, I am still getting used to traveling at 85 mph.

I really respect those men who know what they're doing in terms of construction, more so than ever.

The woods are SO thick, you can only see 3 feet in. Seriously. It's SO dark and thick, if you walk 10 feet in, you think it's actually dusk during full sunlight! Freaky, scary yet pretty cool! 

Seeing a moose is completely random. We've seen moose 9 out of 12 trips. We are very lucky! But not the last 3 trips. Some Maine locals have told me they've never seen one. I am convinced now it's completely random. 

Last year, 5 million bottles of Allen's Coffee Brandy were sold to Mainers. The state population is 1.3 million. Um yeah. They like their Allen's. Keeps ya warm on the frozen lakes while ice fishin'!

The folks in far north Maine are most likely gonna speak English AND French! (That French Canadian thing!)

Allagash Brewing Company will always produce my favorite Maine state beers!

Speed limits and times getting places are relative. You may go 60 or 85 mph but that WAZE bastard program still stays you will get there THE SAME TIME!!!! GRRRRRR.

Fall colors are damn gorgeous. Millions of acres of brilliant Fall colors ablaze! 

The Amish are so much more outgoing and friendly in Maine. They don't identify as a tourist attraction like in Lancaster County, PA. They actively work with us "English" for work. Very outgoing and friendly. AND they laugh at my awful Dad jokes! LOL Love it! 

Everyone has snow shoes for sale which you can get cheap! You need to bahgin with the May-nahs! 😀

Lobster is damn cheap as well! $11.99 a pound! Nom nom nom! I say lobstah EVERY WEEK!
