Some of my Favorite Modern Sculptures

These are some of my favorite modern sculptures. This is not an inclusive list by any means, just some which I have always admired during my studies. I have not seen all of these, just studied them during my years getting my Art History minor at Rutgers U in New Brunswick. The ones in Philadelphia I have seen. I also saw the Calder sculpture below in Seattle.

Andy Warhol "Brillo Boxes" 1964 Philadelphia Museum of Art





I have always been such a huge Andy Warhol fan!  I am fascinated by the concept of taking everyday objects and creating art. Andy Warhol took popular objects and did the same.


Claes Oldenburg "Clothespin" 1976 Philadelphia



I remember seeing this even as a young child. There is something so wonderful about the simplest of objects made so large!

Alien, so smooth, a beautiful work of art.


Jeff Koons "Yellow Balloon Dog" Metropolitan Museum of Art 1994-2000



I love how toy-like it looks. It is deceiving in size and in material. It is actually stainless steel.

Alexander Calder "Eagle" 1971 Seattle



For some reason, Calder's "Eagle" always frightened me.


Meret Oppenheim "Fur-Lined Tea Cup" 1936 Museum of Modern Art, NYC



This always freaked me out. I wasn't frightened by it, just freaked out by its perversity. It is something that should not be made of fur and yet is! It evokes unsettling and disturbing feelings. I like it, haha, but I am also freaked out by it.

"AP Cake" A couple of years back, I had a blog project named “Cooking Through Family”. You can check out the recipes I made on the labels tab of the same name on the front of my blog page. Baby Goats and a Sweet Summer Evening!

Marc and baby Cassie This has been a year in the making. I am now a MAINER, driver’s license and all. I moved up to Maine in October of 2023, eight months ago. I love it. It’s been an emotional and physical journey. That’s a normal thing moving and it’s has been the most difficult thing the myself and the Big Ragu have experienced to date. We are getting through it though! I love my new state. My rambling Victorian farmhouse is incredible, just beautiful. 15 Gardiner St, the former Gardiner family home, has become a HOME in every sense of the world. I feel comfortable and relaxed here. Long days are ended by a cocktail on the long side porch with a nice cigar and a side of bug spray. LOL I have had trials and tribulations during the first 8 months here. I’ve stepped on local toes (given apologies where warranted), bought bud lite (given looks and I’ve said I don’t give a fuck where it’s warranted), accidently insulted the French Acadians of Northern Maine (apologized at my acceptab

A Monster Allergic Reaction: Erythritol

Marc with Hives (Cabbage Patch link) By chance, I completed this blog post on Mother's Day so I guess I will put it up dedicated to my dear Mother Abby. Not a day goes by where I don't think about you, miss you, and love you. And I guess I will thank my Mother for passing on a whole mess of allergies to me, LOL. It's not so bad, I live with them. Sometimes as you will see below, a new allergy will crop up and be added to my list. As my Mom once said to me, "Your allergies? Well you can thank your Mother for that one!" A couple years ago, my doctor recommended I stop drinking so much coffee as well as those energy drinks. I drank the energy drinks fairly often like at least once every couple days. It didn't matter the brand, just whatever was on sale or available. He had stated that he thought there was nothing beneficial to them from a nutritional standpoint and he'd rather have me drink my coffee instead. I did not completely give up my coffee bu
